CPR Training in Schools
WhereIsTheAED.org is a student-led initiative founded by Gianna Digiaro and Josh Carlisle to raise AED awareness and improve emergency preparedness in schools. After discovering that 85% of surveyed students didn’t know what an AED was and 98% couldn’t locate one on campus, they set out to change that. Their goal is to enroll at least one AED Ambassador at every school to educate peers, spread awareness, and ensure students know where to find an AED when seconds matter.

Committee of the CA ACC has been working with high school students to aid them in advocating for CPR and AED awareness and training on their campuses.
Dr Paul Grossfeld worked with students and administrators at his local high school to initiate CPR training for all students. This year Canyon Crest Academy became Project Adam certified and a group of students led by Ethan Chan produced an amazing training video that was used in school wide CPR training.
Gianna Digiaro and Josh Carlisle, both high school students, took a summer medical program at the University of California, Irvine where they learned about the importance of AEDs in saving lives. They developed a website focused on promoting AEDs awareness to high school students across the State. Emily Caldwell, ACNP, of our Committee is now guiding the students as they expand the website and recruit ambassadors from across the State.
Our Committee is excited to empower students to advocate for universal CPR and AED training on their campuses. Additionally we are working with the CA ACC Governmental Affairs Committee to lobby for a Bill that would mandate Statewide High School CPR and AED training.
We have several other ongoing projects and would be interested to have a few additional CA ACC Members join us in our work. If you are interested please contact Gerry Bourne, MD FACC at ghwbourne55@gmail.com
